How to Make a Small Bathroom Look Bigger

Bathrooms can be a place of relaxation or a room you can’t wait to get out. A cluttered or messy bathroom space can add a lot of stress to your life. Luckily, there are some ways you can set up your bathroom where it can feel more like a luxury spa than a stressor.

#1: Utilize Light

Interior design can be a way to trick our perceptions of spaces. Color is a huge way designers do this. Lighter colors make spaces feel larger, while darker walls and fixtures feel more claustrophobic. Considered light-colored tile and vanities in your bathrooms to make them feel bigger.

#2: Don’t Be Negative, Use Negative Space

This one can be tough to implement. If you have a truly tiny bathroom, filling it with the essentials will make the face cramped. There isn’t much you can do in this situation, however, you can reconsider what is essential. Storage is one area where you can cut back in your bathroom. If you can store your bathroom essentials in another area of your home, you’ll see a big difference in your bathroom.

Without cabinet space taking up square footage, you can install a floating vanity which will really expand the look of the space.

#3: Mirror Image

Mirrors are a common way to visually expand a room. You likely have a mirror in your room, but in this case, bigger can be better. The larger the mirror is the more open te space will feel.

#4: Get Rid of the Shower Curtain

A shower curtain’s purpose is to block the view. However, it isn’t the best way to fill that purpose and make your bathroom look big. Consider alternatives like frosted glass which can let light through while maintaining privacy.

#5: De-Clutter!

If you can’t cut out some storage space, try to keep things organized. If you have kids try to keep them out of your master bathroom to keep the space clean and tidy. Clutter is a known stressor and you can get rid of it with good habits.
